Oh dear, so last night I went to Julies house & low & behold, what do I find? the ..

 Boarded up? Really? Well this was 5 hours AFTER they sent me the email with that statement you see in red. Do they not think to telephone the site agents & tell them to get a grip? after all, this is "recommended protection methods by the HSE to prevent people entering sites and accessing scaffolding”

  So we fight the good fight-David & Goliath.  It's not that I want a fight-I don't but I won't stand by whilst some huge builder railroads the little man-or in this case the little Woman. The more I dig the more I unearth about one of Britains largest house builder.

Barratt and the Environment
==================

Barratt have an extremely poor record for environmental correctness. Examples include :

1. Residents on a Linlithgow estate finding dangerous levels of lead in their water supply - the plumber had used leaded solder throughout!
2. Barratt being fined £7,000 for dumping 50 tons of illegal waste at a site in Lincoln
3. Barratt selling homes on a potentially contaminated site BEFORE the environment agency gave an "all-clear" certificate, resulting in Stop notice being issued by Thatcham council
4. Barratt being fined £24,000 in Lincoln (again) for illegal dumping of waste into the public water supply
5. Barratt fined £19,000 after claiming that a contaminated site had been remediated when in fact it hadn't
6. Barratt fined £2,000 for illegal waste oil dumping into a river in Aberdeen.

Barratt Health & Safety

Barratt have total disregard for the safety of their operatives and for the safety of the general public around their sites. At our site in particular, we have had to involve the HSE, the local council and the police in order to force Barratt to provide, lock and secure safety fencing. For months there was a completely open building site and local kids used to come and play and smash tiles and windows. At one stage there were 8-foot deep trenches filled with 3-4 feet of wet concrete left to dry over a weekend.... and kids playing around them!

Other people have had similar problems :

1. Barratt accuse a 4-year old of "hotwiring" an excavator (www.barratthomes.net/press6.htm) - worth a look just for the comedy factor
2. Barratt fined £9,000 as employee falls from roof - lack of safety equipment/supervision
3. Barratt fined £3,000 as employee is pinned to wall by dumper truck driven by unqualified operative
4. Barratt fined £4,000 for failing to take reasonable steps to exlude the public from hazards
5. Barratt fined £1,000 for allowing employee to work on roof without fall arrest or scaffold
6. Barratt fined £5,000 for failing to provide adequate site security despite previous warning.


TIPS for those who insist on buying :

1. GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING
2. Get copies of any document that you are shown (including "artists impressions", estate plans etc. - you will need them later in court)
3. GET DIMENSIONS - For instance, it is Barratt policy to "not include dimensions on estate plans" (Source: Barry Beales, Construction Director Barratt West Midlands during interview 14th November 2002) "because this leads to too many minor squabbles over boundaries".
4. This may sound O-T-T but if I were to go through this process again, I would make summary notes of all meetings with any Barratt employee (particularly in the sales office) and get them to countersign in agreement before you leave the premises. THEY HABITUALLY LIE AND MISLEAD and we have hard evidence of this.

Now these people are really starting to piss me off!
A friend of mine lives on a Barratt estate in Peterborough, Julie’s house is new & she's moved in. They are now building a house next door, 3.5m away to be precise.
OK, so they have taken over Julies drive with their scaffolding, she can't use it or her garage to park in. The constant crap that blows in every day from the site is a pain.
Now the house is at roof height they have ladders up & a fence around the site. Often this is left open & the ladders have never been secured to prevent someone climbing them at night or weekends.
Shrove Tuesday night some weasels climbed the ladder & messed around on the roof, they threw a scaffolding clip (a large double knuckle) onto the roof of Julies car. It caused a lot of damage.
What do Barratt's say? Direct quote below.

I understand that the site is securely fenced with heras fencing and the ladders are boarded to prevent access by others on to the scaffolding. Both of these are recommended protection methods by the HSE to prevent people entering sites and accessing scaffolding. We do obviously make every effort to prevent people getting on to our sites. Unfortunately, however, certain persistant people will inevitably get thorugh these barriers and we cannot be held responsible for their actions.

Many times the fence has been left completely open & I have never seen the ladders boarded. One of the Countries largest builders & they lie & wriggle like this. THE FIGHT IS ON!!

Paris and her stupid sister, Nicky, call themselves “fags” and also call some dude off camera the slur. They also say to the camera, “We’re like two n*ggers. N*gger hoodlum, broke poor bitch from, like, Compton.”

GLAAD President, Neil G. Giuliano said, “These are not frivolous words, and to use them as if they are gives tacit sanction to the racism and homophobia they engender. Hilton has an obligation to go on the record, explain herself, and publicly apologise to the LGBT and African American communities and all those offended by these slurs.”

Hugh Grant is back on the market just days after his latest movie, Music and Lyrics, hit the big screen. Jemima Khan and Hugh decided to split amicably. No details on why the two parted ways have been revealed.
