    London Fashion week

London Fashion Week Shows Start February, I'm hoping to get along.

Organised by the British Fashion Council the London Fashion Week shows will take place at Natural History Museum on Cromwell Road. Showcasing the autumn/winter 2007 collections, drawing the glitterati of the fashion media and setting the tone for next seasons styles, the London Fashion Week shows are the place to see all the best in fashion and glamour.

Over 100 designers will hold a series of catwalk shows in vast white marquees during the London Fashion Week shows. With a mix of new designers taking to the stage, alongside their more established contemporaries, they unveil their new collections to a professional audience of press and buyers from the UK and cities across the globe.

A large number of static stands will showcase the best of British fashion and the fashion glitterati will be out in force to spot the hot new trends and be first in the queue for the best up and coming fashions.

    London Fashion Week.

The most prominent Fashion Weeks are held in London, Milan, Paris, New York City, São Paulo, Tokyo, Los Angeles and Rome.

Other Fashion Weeks where local style typically tends to set international fashion trends or where the fashion industry is important to local commerce are held in Moscow, Amsterdam, Bangkok, Budapest, Buenos Aires, Chicago, Copenhagen, Dubai, Hong Kong, Miami, Montreal, Mumbai, Palm Springs, Singapore and Johannesburg.

Catwalk won't have any new rules. "What a bloody surprise."

The British Fashion Council has appealed for 'healthy' models to be used on catwalks during London Fashion Week but no minimum Body Mass Index is to be introduced.  Last year, following the deaths Luisel Ramos and Ana Carolina Reston, Spain banned models with a BMI under 18 from appearing on the catwalk in Madrid - but the UK is not ready to follow suit.

Instead, a voluntary code of practice will be introduced to promote the use of models larger than the size four (US size zero) - and over the age of 16.  London Fashion Week sponsors Topshop, Superdrug and MAC have agreed to support the code.

Susan Ringwood, chief executive of the Eating Disorders Association, doesn't believe that photos of underweight celebrities and models cause people to have eating disorders, 'but once they were unwell, it became very hard for them to get better.

'It's a mixed message they get, when they are being told they are damaging their bodies and yet see other people being celebrated for it.'  The World Health Organisation considers a BMI under 18.5 as underweight and a BMI of between 18.5 and 24.9 as healthy.

Fashion bosses from Paris, Milan, New York and London have now agreed to take part in a debate on how to address eating disorders

    PHOTOJOURNALISM-EVER CHANGING MOODS.

TIME MAGAZINE BEST PHOTO OF THE YEAR 2006.  Link  <---Take a look

Is it me? Yes I work in the media industry, but viewing Time’s photo’s of the year 06, it appears that the photo’s are getting more & more morbid, with images of suffering selling the most. We live in a dramatically fast changing world where images are shot, sent & on the editors desk in minutes from anywhere in the world. But if they continue to buy the images of suffering, the price goes up with demand & more & more of these images flood our magazines & newspapers making for a depressing world. I guess like everything else, it’s a supply & demand market & the role of the photojournalist is also ever changing.

EXAMPLE This is the front cover of RANGEFINDER MAGAZINE 12-06. Here's  <--THE ARTICLE.

When 2nd Lt. James Cathey’s body arrived at the Reno Airport, Marines climbed into the cargo hold of the plane and draped the flag over his casket as passengers watched the family gather on the tarmac. During the arrival of another Marine’s casket last year at Denver International Airport, Major Steve Beck described the scene as one of the most powerful in the process: “See the people in the windows? They’ll sit right there in the plane, watching those Marines. You got to wonder what’s going through their minds, knowing that they’re on the plane that brought him home,” he said. “They’re going to remember being on that plane for the rest of their lives. They’re going to remember bringing that Marine home. And they should.”
